greg caldwell honored with 2025 o'donnell award
Congratulations are in order for Greg Caldwell, this year's recipient of the FoK Kevin O'Donnell Distinguished Friend of Korea Award – richly deserved recognition of his mulitfaceted dedication to Korea over the years. He initially went to Korea in 1971 with the Peace Corps and returned on a Fulbright Scholarship to teach at Kangwon University.
Greg was on the faculty of Lewis & Clark College for 35 years. He retired in 2011 as the Assistant Dean of Students and Director of International Students and Scholars. As anyone who knows Greg can attest, he has connections in almost every country around the world - a deep and extensive global network of former students and colleagues.
Not too long after his retirement, in 2013, he was appointed Honorary Consul of the Republic of Korea in Northern Oregon, a position he held for 10 years. In this role, Greg worked tirelessly to strengthen ties between Northern Oregon and South Korea in the areas of business and commerce, trade, science, education and culture. As Honorary Consul, Greg assisted an untold number of individuals, community organizations and businesses in Oregon. He took every opportunity to educate Oregonians about Korea and his connection to the country. Greg served with such honor and distinction that the President of the Republic of Korea awarded him the Order of Diplomatic Service Merit, Changui Medal in 2022.
We are delighted to recognize Greg's many achievements and contributions to fostering friendship and understanding between Americans and Koreans.
