Friends of Korea funded a scholarship for this 5-day immersive workshop taught by Aimee Lee.  The workshop took place in Oberlin, Ohio.  The FoK Scholarship went to Hayoung Emily Yun, a self-described 2.5 gen Korean American eager to learn more about hanji.  Hayoung is a multidisciplinary artist in Oakland with a lifelong passion for drawing and creating.

Techniques covered in this workshop include:

• Understanding plants/fibers appropriate for Korean-style paper
• Fiber prep: scraping, cooking, rinsing, picking, beating
• Webal sheet formation (suspended frame, professional tools: bal & bal teul)
• Ssangbal sheet formation using a variety of student tools
• Pressing, boarding, drying paper
