Through Our Eyes: Peace Corps Korea, 1966-1981
In 2008, in New York City, with President Lee Myung-bak at the podium, the Korea Society honored former Peace Corps Korea volunteers by presenting them the James A. Van Fleet award.
A few months later, the Korea Foundation hosted the first in a series of revisit trips for former Peace Corps Korea volunteers. The first revisit was all the more special because Kathleen Stephens, a former Peace Corps Korea volunteer, had just arrived in Korea as the new U.S. Ambassador. At this first revisit, many former volunteers brought photos from their time in Korea. The interest shown in these pictures gave birth to the idea for this book. It is a collection of rare photographs of Korea at a time when the country was still struggling, but destined to become the cultural, political, economic, and aesthetic powerhouse it is today.
