Ambassador Kathy Stephens (K35), former United States Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, spoke to the World Affairs Council of Orange County on the subject of "Korea's Modern Journey, An American Ambassador's Reflections" to more 130 people attending this very special dinner. The event was co-sponsored by the Friends of Korea.
The dinner also included Korean Court Music provided by Dr. Dong-Suk Kim and his partner during a reception preceding the dinner. Irvine Mayor Steven Choi, K-7 & K-8 Language Instructor, introduced Ambassador Stevens. Topics covered by Ambassador Stephens were far reaching and included not only Korea's establishment as a major economic power as well as its cultural impact around the world, but also touched on the issue or reunification of the North and South and the issues related to that important challenge facing the peninsula. Earlier in the day, Ambassador Stephens and FOK Treasurer, James Mayer, attended a luncheon at the Los Angeles Mayor's Residence in honor of President Park Geun-hye after which Ambassador Stephens spoke to about 60 students at UC Irvine.
