Call for Nominations for positions on the Board

Instructions: You may self-nominate and/or nominate others. There is no limit to the number of nominations that you can submit. Nominations must include a working email and/or contact number. The FOK Nominating Committee will contact nominees shortly after receipt of this Nomination Form.  All nominations are due June 30th, 2019.

​To make a nomination, you must be a current member of Friends of Korea.  if you are not sure of your membership status, send an email to contactFOK@gmail.com.

What is involved in being a board member?

In order to thrive as an organization, FOK looks for talented individuals to serve on its Board of Directors.  If you would like to assume a leadership position within the organization, please review the responsibilities outlined below and complete the attached application. Or, if you know of someone who would be interested, please consider nominating that person and letting them now that you have done so.
 
Individual Responsibilities of a Board Member
  • Serve a three-year board term
  • Promote, organize and engage in activities to support the FOK mission, initiatives and activities
  • Attend and participate in all board and committee meetings
  • Review the meeting agenda and supporting materials prior to each meeting
  • Serve on committees or task forces as needed
  • Respond to emails and calls in a timely fashion
  • Assist the board in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities, including reviewing/approving the annual operating budget and financial statements
  • Suggest nominees who can fulfill board member responsibilities
  • Ensure membership dues are current at all times while serving as a board member
  • Self-finance attendance at annual board meeting and annual meeting
  • Other duties as assigned by the executive officers
Personal Qualities of FOK Board Members
  •  Ability to analyze and creatively support the mission of FOK
  •  Sensitive to and tolerant of differing points of view to facilitate collegial problem-solving
  •  Willingness to take responsibility and follow through on a given assignments
  •  Honest and friendly approach to serving FOK
  •  Sense of humor
Time Commitment
  • 4 board meetings (via conference call) - usually 60 -90 minutes
  • 1 annual in-person board meeting - full day
  • 1 annual membership meeting (usually the day after the in-person board meeting)
  • Task forces or committee duties as assigned.
